I´ll be gone in the dark

About the author:

I´ll be gone in the dark. Michelle Eileen McNamara born April 14, 1970, passed away on April 21, 2016. Mrs. McNamara never got the chance to see the Golden State Serial Killer aka the original night stalker get arrested. And finally, get to know who was behind the gruesome rapes and murders. Mrs. McNamara had an exciting blog where she wrote about true crime. Her biggest passion was finding the Golden State Serial Killer.

Review:

With her book “I´ll be gone in the dark” Michelle  McNamara takes her readers into her investigation. From every page, you turn you will feel her passion for getting the perpetrator arrested.

Mrs. McNamara was an exceptional woman with her specific writing style. For my taste, she jumped a bit too much back and forth while writing, but that is just a matter of taste. Never the less the book is excellent to read. I find it very sad that Michelle never got to know who the killer was. While reading the book, I knew the identity of the Golden State Killer. But that knowledge didn´t make the reading experience less enjoyable. I think to know who was behind the killings made the book perhaps even more impressive.

A lot of chapters are pieced together from Michelle´s notes and drafts from when she wrote: “In the Footsteps of a Killer” for Los Angeles Magazine.

I absolutely love how Michelle McNamara begins her book by naming all the victims.

Sadly Mrs. McNamara passed away before she could finish her book. So the rest of the book has been pieced together by her husband Patton Oswalt, Journalist Billy Jensen and Paul Haynes.

In the book, Mr. Oswalt has written a very captivating memorial to  Michelle McNamara. This was a very touching read but I find it would have been best to let these lovely words have been the end of the book. But that is just where I think those loving words should have been placed.

And for those who want to know more about who the Golden State Serial killer is. On April 2018 the 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested as the Golden State Serial killer also known as The East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker.
